🎬🇵🇱 LALKOMANIA: A ONCE-IN-A-GENERATION POLISH CINEMA MOMENT
KIKA, Krakow
After the screening, sir William will gather people outside of the cinema and go for the after meeting to discuss the film. This time we will meet in cinema. Screening is in Polish with English Subtitles Tickets are here: https://bilety.kinokika.pl/index.php/repertoire.html?id=92956 Poland has caught Lalkomania. One of the country’s most iconic novels has suddenly become the cultural event of the season — discussed, argued about, rediscovered and reimagined. The numbers show just how huge Lalkomania has become. 📚🎬 Lalka is now the #2 most-read title on Polona, Poland’s national digital library, while the new Netflix adaptation reached 2.5 million views and 16.9 million hours watched — making it, so far, the #3 non-English Netflix series worldwide. 🇵🇱🌍 And what is happening now is not simply exceptional in the history of Lalka adaptations. It is something extraordinary in the history of Polish literature and cinema itself: for the first time, two major independent productions of the same Polish literary classic are reaching audiences almost simultaneously. A six-part Netflix reinterpretation premiered on 16 September, followed by an epic cinema feature on 30 September. Two completely separate productions, two creative visions and two ways of confronting the same literary monument. 🎥📚 From this Thu most of work small talks in this country will be like: Which Lalka is better? Netflix? New cinematic? Classic one? Book? 🥹 For those of us living in Poland, this is also an amazing moment to immerse ourselves in Polish literature through cinema — and through one of the country’s greatest novels, understand a little more about the culture, history and society of the country we live in. 🇵🇱❤️ The cinema version promises scale, elegance, spectacle and emotion; reviews return to its humour, visual richness, energy and emotional pull. “A whole spectrum of emotions — from laughter and irritation to tears of emotion, compassion and helplessness.” — ESKA “Lalka entertains and amuses without avoiding reflections on class, racial and gender inequalities.” — Filmweb 🎩 The evening will be hosted by Sir William. And the evening doesn’t end with the credits. 🍻 At 10:30 PM, we’ll continue at Punkt — the best local pub in Podgórze, where we’ll have drinks and discuss the movie together. 📍 Punkt, ul.
